Dexter

We adopted Dexter on 3rd December 2011 and, after a few teething problems, are pleased to confirm that he has settled in well.  When we first got him home we found he was really skinny and continually asking for food.  We have changed his diet and he is now filling out we are finding the need for food all the time is subsiding together with the bad habits that go with it.
We also had a slight issue with him and our resident dog Mia.  She is used to cats but Dexter is not used to dogs.  He was quite aggressive with her when we first got him home and we had to separate them for about a month.  He finally came round to her when he first went out and the dogs next door barked at him.  He then realised that Mia was quite a nice dog and that she did not bark at him or chase him and since then they have started getting along better.  They are not best friends but they are starting to get used to each other and Mia can walk past Dexter without getting a claw in the nose. When we first got Dexter home he was not interested in playing but now he has settled in he plays with lots of things but his favourite thing is his fish on a stick.  He is also very fond of a lap and has now started to let me groom him while he sleeps.  This was one of the things I was told he did not like.  This is the case some days and he will just play with the comb (and my hand if I'm not careful) but most of the time he is quite happy to be groomed.  He is going out now but not for very long.  We don't know if this is due to the weather or something else but this was something that was noted when we first saw him on the website.  Hopefully when the weather gets warmer he will become more confident and start enjoying the garden more.
